In this article, we will discover how you use grounding for weight loss. You may want to read this post if you’ve been struggling with losing weight. Did you know that one of the most frequent ways to ground is by eating? Have you ever found yourself eating subconsciously because you are stressed or bored? If so, then it was probably because you were trying to ground. Overall, it is common for many of us to turn to food for comfort. The good news is you don’t have to do this anymore; learn to ground and get all the consolation you need.
What is grounding?
Before I talk about grounding for weight loss, let me give you a definition of grounding. The definition of grounding means you are connected with the earth both physically and mentally. Grounding is key to physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being. It creates emotional stability and calms and clarifies the mind. It helps one to deal with traumatic or stressful situations and crises.
When you feel grounded in the earth, you feel as if you are in a state of total peace. You may not realize this, but any type of energy, either exciting or negative, can cause you to use up your sympathetic nervous system energies and interfere with your connectivity to the earth. Whether it be the excitement of getting a new job or the stress of losing a job, both can cause you not to be grounded.
Energy needs balancing
You see, any energy, whether it is positive or negative, needs adequate balance. If you don’t balance your energy systems, you will lose your ability to feel grounded and at peace. This whole concept has a lot to do with your root chakra, which is connected to your prime sense of security in life.
How can you use grounding for weight loss?
Now that I have discussed what grounding is and how it can affect you, I will talk about how you can use it to help with weight loss. If you tend to eat mindlessly when you feel excited or stressed, then this article will be for you.
You see, when you get caught up in the energy of emotion, it tends to bring you away from feeling in the present. In many ways, this can be a good thing; however, there are times when it can cause chaos, and before you know it, you’re eating your whole pantry.
So, learning to ground can help bring you a sense of calm without ruining your diet.
What are ways to ground?
The good news is that there are multiple methods you can use to achieve grounding for weight loss. I will go through some of my favorite ways.
Martial arts- such as Tai Chi Gung
One of my favorite ways of grounding for weight loss is through martial arts called Tai’ Chi Gung. I do Tai Chi Gung whenever my mind is racing. Tai’ Chi Gung is a martial art that has been around for thousands of years and originated in China. It incorporates movement with slow breathing and is the ultimate for activating your parasympathetic nervous system. You can read about it more on my Start Here page.
Yoga
Yoga is another fantastic way to ground. Like Tai Chi Gung, it is a meditative type of exercise that also allows you to focus on your breath. I like to do yoga most days of the week before getting started for my day. I find that most days, I will incorporate yoga with Tai Chi for an added calming effect.
Meditation and Breathwork
Nothing speaks grounding for weight loss like incorporating meditation and breathwork into your life. When you meditate and incorporate breathing, you put your body into a zen mode and bring forth complete relaxation, which allows you to connect with your breath. Did you realize that the connection of your breath is linked to finding your soul? According to Lama Rasaji Shakti in his Circle of Life book, we are a “Spirit being having a physical experience,” and the key to that successful intersection is breathing.
If your breathing is expansive and it is filling your body along with your energy points( which surrounds your physical body) seven feet in each direction, then your body moves in that energy field with little to no tension or little to no stiffness.
So what does that mean? To reduce tension and lose the weight that you want, you need to sit still and breathe! The more you meditate and breathe, the more you will tap into your energetic body and help to feel grounded to want to lose weight.
Many ways to ground
The modalities I mentioned above are some of the ways to ground; however, it is not an all-inclusive list. There are other ways to help with grounding, such as being outdoors and hiking in nature. If you want to learn more about grounding and aligning your root chakra, you can listen to my podcast about balancing the root chakra. I also wrote an article on certain types of vegetables to help with root chakra balance, which you can find here.
The juicy part; grounding to help lose weight
So the next thing you may wonder is how exactly grounding helps in the weight loss department. Well, you see, my friend, it is a two-way street. It happens like this; you ground first, and then weight loss follows.
As I mentioned before, have you ever noticed that when you get super excited or stressed, you want to go to the pantry? You see, in these times, you’re not that hungry. You think you’re hungry because you’re caught up in the emotions. When your brain gets bogged down with emotions, then it tends to go bonkers, so to speak.
By that, I mean you think your brain needs food to calm down. When in reality, it does not need food; it needs breath and movement. So next time you feel like you need to go for the food because you are feeling anxious, super excited, angry, sad, or whatever, I want you to pause and reflect. Once you get into that reflection, I want you to ask yourself, ” Do I need to eat that food to make me feel better?” OR ” Do I need to take deep breaths into my nose and out of my mouth and ground.”
Chances are you don’t need the food to calm down, and you need to ground. You see, I’ve noticed something. If I turn to food for those emotions, I notice that afterward, it doesn’t make me feel better; it makes me feel exhausted. So, what I have done, is that anytime I have any of those emotions, I now recognize I need to slow down for 5 minutes. Once I slow down for 5 minutes and take some deep breaths in my nose and out of my mouth, I notice that my need for food dissipates.
Try it sometime; it works! I hope you enjoyed this article. If you’re interested, I offer shamanic services, which are also excellent for grounding. You can email me at [email protected].
